Think Scandinavian style and instantly images of Gustavian white rooms, simplicity, bare floorboards and nature tend to fill your head. And rightly so. This Swedish and Norwegian design style is about bringing light and airiness into your home but in a very natural – and uncluttered – manner.
Why the white? To brighten up those oppressively dark Scandinavian nights of course (in the heart of winter there’s sometimes only two hours of natural light a day). Can you imagine?!

When it comes to creating Scandinavian bedrooms at a minimal cost the masters are, of course, Swedish-based (and now international) designers Ikea. This room, for their 2014 collection, has all the classic elements – wood and white walls with accessories containing little touches of black/grey. Then there’s that gorgeous wood burner and that corner pile of wood cuttings sitting beside the vintage chimney. We feel lighter and cleaner already just looking at this pic:
